The HCRS expanding roll spool shaft is said to be less expensive but stronger and stiffer than heavier metal alternatives. The large-diameter shaft utilizes a carbon fiber body for strength, shrouded in aluminum to house the gripping strips. This hybrid design allows converters of large rolls to wind larger rolls without increasing hoisting requirements or changing core diameters. Also allows higher critical speeds to increase machine throughput and minimize vibration. Dual-valve inflation system ensures roll security.
