ATLANTA, GA | Caraustar Industries is cited by DuPont with a Noteworthy Accomplishment Award in the DuPont Packaging Awards for Caraustar’s redesign of Callaway’s Dozen Pak golf ball packaging.
The entry was recognized as an “excellent example of source reduction; with a 50% reduction in material costs.”
The design team, led by Caraustar’s Steve Mahler, conceptualized and redesigned the Callaway Dozen Pak from a two-piece construction to a one-piece design, allowing for cost reduction of up to 50% in the package and corrugated cases. The redesign permitted the elimination of multiple SKUs for warehousing, shipping and manufacturing, and reduced waste generated in the manufacturing process. Essentially, the carbon footprint was cut in half for both Caraustar and its customer.
The DuPont award program is judged by an independent international panel on each of seven innovation factors, including enhanced performance, cost effective economics, resource and energy optimization, responsible sourcing, and clean production.
