RONKONKOMA, NY | Flexographic Technical Association (FTA), a global leading professional society dedicated to advancing the flexographic print process, is now accepting entries for its 2010 Excellence in Flexography Awards Competition. The entry submission deadline is January 8, 2010.
The Excellence in Flexography Awards competition, established in 1960, aims to recognize the outstanding technical achievement in flexographic printing. Technical achievement is defined as any work that has an extremely high level of execution, or any work that includes the use of techniques, processes, controls, materials, tooling, or equipment that contributes to the advancement of the flexographic printing process.
The competition is open to all printers/converters, print buyers, suppliers, prepress providers, designers, students, and graphic artists--regardless of membership status. Entries are broken down into the following categories: wide web, mid web, narrow web, paperboard, napkins, combined corrugated, preprinted linerboard, envelope, publications/newspaper, self-promotion, and student. There is also an opportunity to submit entries for Graphic Design to recognize the quality of package design --an element of packaging, which is playing an increasingly important role in flexo printing.
Judging is scheduled for January 2010, with all winners announced at the FTA’s Annual Forum & INFO*FLEX Exhibition, May 2--5, in Las Vegas, NV. Judging is based on the degree of difficulty pertaining to: substrate printability/ink compatibility; registration tolerance; fineness of print and/or screen; tonal range; defect detectability; added difficulty; and the accuracy to fully assess the difficulty and execution of the entry. Additional elements judged are: image sharpness; ink coverage; registration; dot/screen/vignette quality; and consistency.
The FTA’s 2010 Excellence in Flexography Awards competition is expected to draw more than 600 entries, comparable to the 2009 competition which bestowed a grand total of 135 gold, silver, and bronze awards. Nine of them took the Best of Shows in their respective categories.
To encourage companies to submit additional entries, FTA offers a pricing structure that allows 1–5 entries for $80.00 each for FTA members and $160.00 each for non-members. An additional entry after fives $70.00 each and $140.00 each respectively.
The deadline to submit entries is Jan. 8, 2010. Entries must have been created between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2009.
