Rohrer Corp. Achieves FSC & SFI Chain-of-Custody Certifications

WADSWORTH, OH | Rohrer Corp. has achieved chain of custody certification from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) (www.sfiprogram.org) and is the only converter to offer BlisterGuard with the SFI Chain of Custody certification, the company reports. Rohrer says it is among the first in the blister and skin packaging niche to achieve both SFI and FSC certification. The company says the decision to pursue dual certification for all three of Rohrer’s locations (Wadsworth, OH, Buford, GA, and Huntley, IL) was to give customers flexibility in how they choose to represent themselves when it comes to environmental stewardship.
FSC and SFI are the leading non-profit organizations dedicated to sustainable forest management. Chain of custody is the process of tracking certified wood fiber from the forest through all stages of processing, manufacturing, and distribution. Certification for Chain of Custody requires third party auditing which was performed by QMI-SAI Global for Rohrer Corp.
Sources at Rohrer indicate that obtaining FSC and SFI certification is a natural fit for the company. According to Adkins, “Efficiency and sound environmental printing practices go hand in hand; it’s truly the foundation of our business.” Rohrer Corp. is a licensed producer of BlisterGuard, a paperboard-based tear resistant package designed to replace traditional clamshells.
“Consumer good manufacturers are facing a unique combination of challenges when it comes to packaging: the demand for sustainability coming from retailers and consumers, protection of their product, all while maintaining aesthetics for marketability,” says Scot Adkins, president of Rohrer Corp. “The combination of a product like BlisterGuard produced with certified materials helps our customers meet all of those challenges.”
