Bemis Finishes Walki Films Buy

MINNEAPOLIS, MN, USA—Bemis Company reports it has completed the purchase of the Walki Films business of UPM-Kymmene for a cash price of approximately $68.5 million (US). According to the converting giant, this acquired business becomes the largest component of its European packaging operations and specializes in high-barrier vacuum and modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) used primarily for packaging meat, cheese, and other fresh foods. The acquisition includes manufacturing plants in Valkeakoski, Finland, and Epernon, France.

Bemis Company is a major supplier of flexible packaging and pressure-sensitive materials. The company was founded in 1858 and, in 2001, it reported sales of $2.3 billion (US). More is available at bemis.com.
