Be Part of the Circular Economy by Opting for Cortec® Recyclable Moisture-Barrier Paper and Linerboard

In these difficult days, perhaps now more than ever, society is about to realize the importance of conserving resources—both for economic and environmental purposes. In the paper packaging sector, this translates into the use of materials that can be repulped and made into other paper products, rather than going directly to the landfill after their first use.

For the many users of moisture barrier packaging, this presents a special challenge, as polyethylene and wax coatings have historically been used to seal porous paper to create a moisture barrier. When coated this way, the resulting paper product is an environmental problem and cannot be recycled through normal channels.

Due to its strong emphasis on developing non-hazardous, environmentally friendly options for packaging and/or corrosion protection, Cortec® Corporation has been able to successfully present the market with a viable, competitive alternative to traditional moisture barrier packaging. Cortec’s EcoShield® Recyclable Barrier Paper and Linerboard are coated with a water-based barrier coating that resists moisture, grease and oil. When tested according to ASTM E-96, EcoShield Recyclable Barrier Paper shows a Water Vapor Transmission Rate (WVTR) comparable to polycoated paper and far superior to waxed paper.

Recyclable Barrier Paper and Linerboard are fully recyclable/repulpable into other types of paper products such as boxes, cardboard, and other corrugated materials. This represents good resource stewardship while still achieving critical packaging qualities.

Users of EcoShield Recyclable Barrier Paper and Linerboard thus have the opportunity to contribute to a circular economy while still getting the benefits of moisture barrier packaging.
