Film Bonds Keypads to Membrane Switches
SPENCER, MA, USA—FLEXcon Co. announces SWITCHmark LX 3-1-2 is engineered for bonding silicone rubber keypads to membrane switch applications, making it ideal for consumer electronics, industrial controls, and medical equipment, as well as security system control applications.

It utilizes a 1-mil polyester carrier film coated on one side with a high-performance silicone adhesive and backed with a 78# kraft liner. The other side of the carrier film is coated with a high-performance acrylic adhesive and backed with an 80# sheet-form release liner.

A high-performance, moderate-tack silicone PSA enables continuous processing and assembly of switches by providing an immediate bond to silicone rubber keypads, the company reports, adding the polyester carrier film provides stability to the entire construction for easy handling.


Gidue and Stork Announce Partnership
MILAN, ITALY—Gidue and Stork Prints have agreed to a joint technical and commercial partnership on the development of the “Ready-RSI” rotary screen head concept designed for existing and future models of the Gidue Combat Series press.

The newly developed rotary screen head will comprise the “Ready” concept unique to Gidue. Utilizing its freestanding, movable, multi-process trolley and Stork RSI rotary screen technology, Stork Prints will provide to Gidue both the motor-driven technology for the printing head as well as expertise to customers on the use of its Rota-Mesh screen technology.

Reusable up to 15x, the RotaMesh screen has a pure nickel, nonwoven hexagonal construction, offering stability for faster print runs and lifespan up to 500,000 web m. The RSI rotary screen head will be integrated within the Gidue multi-process trolley, allowing it to be moved to any Flower print unit location on the Combat. The “Ready-RSI” will be available for the full range of Combat press widths of 11, 14.5, 17, and 21 in.

In other news from Gidue, Superior Labels Ltd., Boston, UK, has installed a second Gidue Combat 370 flexo press. The new six-color version has full UV curing capability and complements an existing six-color UV Combat press. It will be used primarily for producing high quality labels for the food, beverage, and industrial markets.

Prime Graphics Adds Comco Press
WOOD DALE, IL, USA—Prime Graphics recently installed a ten-color Comco MSP Pro Glide press designed for high-end flexible packaging, overwrap, and pouching applications, as well as the roll-fed label (ROSSO) and shrink sleeve markets.

The converter reports the press adds quick-change technologies for efficient short runs and the ability to print on a wide variety of extensible films while utilizing state-of-the-art in-line laminating technology.


Smart Packaging Show Launched
CHICAGO, IL, USA— Smart Packaging 2004 is being launched alongside Labelexpo Americas 2004, scheduled for September 14-15, at the Donald E. Stevens Convention Center near Chicago, IL. The new event will be supported by the Tag and Label Manufacturers Institute.

Developed in co-operation with the Institute of Packaging Professionals, the two-day keynote conference will cover all aspects of smart packaging and is expected to attract in excess of 200 delegates from the label, packaging, and end-user sectors.

Delegates to the Smart Packaging event also will be able to visit Labelexpo Americas.
