Enercon Industries in Menomonee Falls, WI, endowed a prize in 1986 to accompany the Leadership and Service Award of the Polymers, Laminations and Coatings Division. Through the generosity of this company, the winner of the annual prize receives a cash award of $1000.00.
“In establishing the Andreas Ahlbrandt Prize, Enercon Industries wanted to recognize valuable contributors to the success of the Polymers, Laminations and Coatings Division while simultaneously remembering Mr. Ahlbrandt, a renowned industry leader,” said David A. Markgraf, Senior Vice President of Enercon Industries. Ahlbrandt was born in 1921 and died in 1997. He was the founder and president of Ahlbrandt Systems, GmbH. “During his long career,” Markgraf noted, “he made significant contributions to paper and film converting processes through inventions in bag production, drying technology, and electrical surface treatment.”
Ahlbrandt was an engineering graduate of Technishe Hochschule Darmstdt. He served in various engineering and research and development positions before establishing his own company. A Rotarian and Paul Harris Fellow, Ahlbrandt received honors for his more than 20 years of service to the technical education of young people. Markgraf noted, “The establishment of the Andreas Ahlbrandt Prize for the Leadership and Service Award of the Polymers, Laminations and Coatings Division was a logical extension of remembering Mr. Ahlbrandt by recognizing those individuals who continue his dedication of service to the converting and packaging industries.”
The Polymers, Laminations and Coatings Division Award and Andreas Ahlbrandt Prize winner must be a member of the division. Criteria for selection requires a proven history of diligent work for TAPPI; the Polymers, Laminations and Coatings Division; or the division committees.
