Three Shows Make Autumn a Season of Innovation

As the leaves change color this fall, changes in the industry will be on display as well, with three shows highlighting new products and new technology for several segments of the industry.

Plastics USA
Described as “North America's Plastics Marketplace,” Plastics USA comes to McCormick Place North, Chicago, IL, October 2-4. The triennial event is cosponsored by The Society of the Plastics Industry Inc. (SPI) and The Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE).

Covering 120,000 sq ft of exhibit space will be 500 suppliers of machinery, auxiliary equipment, components, new materials, tool and dies, robotics, software, and other related products and services. More than 15,000 visitors are expected, primarily from the US, Canada, Mexico, and Central and South America.

In addition to the exhibition, visitors will find seminars on topics such as color and appearance; extrusion polymer modifiers and additives; product design and development; thermoforming; vinyl plastics; and more.

Exhibitors of special interest to converters will include Ametek TCI Div. (testing equipment); Apex Machine Co. (printing systems, including dry offset, letterflex, gravure, and rotary screen); Datacolor Intl. (color information management systems); Fanuc Robotics North America (robots and parts-handling equipment); GretagMacbeth (color measurement and testing instruments and software); Haug North America (static elimination; web cleaning systems); Kensol-Franklin (hot stamping systems); Pantone Inc. K 2001

The Fairgrounds in Düsseldorf, Germany, will be the setting for K 2001, the 15th Intl. Trade Fair for Plastics + Rubber, October 25-November 1.

The event, sponsored by Messe Düsseldorf, is expected to attract more than 265,000 visitors and 2,600 exhibitors from around the world. Messe Düsseldorf North America will organize a North American Pavilion that will be sponsored by the Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI).

A special exhibit will be “Plastics in Outer Space — Solutions for the Earth.” It is jointly sponsored by Messe Düsseldorf, the European Space Agency (ESA), the Assn. of Plastics Mfrs. in Europe (APME), and the German Assns. of the Plastics Mfrs. Industry (VKE). Experts for all areas of the plastics industry will present examples of how plastics used in the aerospace industry can be applied to solve problems on Earth, including increase of global energy consumption and its impact on the climate; earthquake-resistant structures, etc. Some of the products that will be on display are already in use, while others are still in the development stage. This special exhibit can be found in the new Hall 6 at the Düsseldorf Fairgrounds.

RadTech Europe
The radiation curing industry will gather at the Congress Center in Basle, Switzerland, October 8-10 for RadTech Europe 2001, the official event of RadTech Europe Assn. This year's theme is “UV/EB — Growing into the 21st Century.”

Organized by Vincentz Verlag, the program includes both an exhibition and a conference program, as well as an exhibitors reception, a gala dinner, and the “The Innovative Award” honoring one of the speakers.

More than 120 presentations and poster contributions will cover such fields of application as graphic arts; adhesives and lamination; UV-powder coatings; equipment and process control; advances in photochemistry and polymerization; raw materials and formulation; analytics; new applications; and more.
