PrimaPak Technology Used for Holiday Packaging

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL | Just in time for the holidays, a package innovation featuring the PrimaPak packaging system is launching at a regional East Coast retailer. Developed for John B. Sanfilippo & Son’s Flavor Tree brand, the Limited Edition Premium Dark Chocolate Pretzels will be sold throughout the holidays. The patented and patent pending PrimaPak technology is designed to replace heavy rigid packaging and improve shelf appeal. It achieves up to 70% weight savings compared to plastic jars, reduces warehousing demands, and truck shipments while improving costs and enhancing sustainability initiatives throughout the supply chain.

“We’re delighted to see the new PrimaPak application on retail shelves and excited about the opportunity to showcase the package’s vertical strength and stackability,” said James Sanfilippo, CEO of Clear Lam Packaging Inc. “The customized design for Flavor Tree pretzels creates a gift wrapped presentation perfect for the holidays. The package is made from a single roll of film on a PrimaPak bagging machine, and it’s really easy for consumers to use and then throw away.”

To create a flexible package capable of being stacked and to better protect products inside, Clear Lam developed a new method of enhancing the package rigidity. The end result is a pop-up box shape with greater consumer appeal. The finished package retains its shape, performs well during transport, and stores well on retail shelves as well as in consumer pantries. In addition, the Peel and ReSeal Lid opens easily, stays open, and reseals to the package with a light touch.

The PrimaPak package is a flexible package produced from custom rollstock on a PrimaPak vertical form-fill-seal (VFFS) machine. Designed as a replacement for rigid cans, bottles, jars, trays, and select flexible packaging, the PrimaPak package can be produced in a variety of different shapes and sizes. It can also be contoured into custom shapes such hexagons or octagons.

The PrimaPak package has six sides allowing for maximum on-pack marketing to build enthusiasm for a brand. The technology reduces the package cube up to 30% or more, maximizing manufacturing efficiencies and improving warehousing space and transportation demands. Each benefit offers multiple opportunities to achieve measurable cost savings and sustainability improvements throughout the supply chain.
