Overwrap Shows Off
Ampac Flexibles, Cincinnati, OH, offers a solventless overwrap lamination for primary or secondary packaging applications. Flexi-Free 6836 is said to be well suited for applications requiring excellent barrier but where the highest performance characteristics provided by foil-based structures are not needed. The lamination comprises (outer to inner) 48-ga polyster/48-ga metallized polyester/0.0015-in. LLDPE (this layer enhances puncture resistance and seal characteristics). The clear top polyester layer can be flexo printed on the reverse side to provide a graphic billboard in up to ten colors.

Whisky Box a Winner
A “soft box” gift pack for Glenmorangie premium malt Scotch whisky earned several honors recently at the Packaging Starpack Awards in the UK. The package, developed by the Field Group subsidiary of Chesapeake Corp., Richmond, VA, features an embossed cartonboard with a corrugated internal lining and a felt-covered vacuum form. A high quality, leather-like finish is said to provide high shelf presence and a lightweight but robust construction. The package won a silver award in the “Best Consumer Pack—Food and Drink” and “Best Creative Cartonboard Packaging” categories.

Medical Breakthrough
Duet is a peelable chevron header pouch said to reduce costs while offering improved aseptic presentation of medical products and making access easier. Developed by Rollprint, Addison, IL, the hybrid design combines elements from both header bags and chevron pouches. The pouch is sent to the sterile medical packager with the chevron or bottom access seals in place. The device or kit is loaded from the top end where the Tyvek and film are to be heat-sealed.
