The Show Circuit

Two events coming in May will provide opportunities to see new equipment and products, to hear about emerging technologies, and to network with industry peers. Whether you vacuum coat, die-cut, foil stamp, or emboss, we've got a show for you.
IADD•FSEA Odyssey
Converters involved in the die-cutting, foil stamping, and embossing segments of our industry will discover new technologies and practical solutions by attending the 2009 IADD•FSEA Odyssey conference and exhibition, sponsored by the International Assn. of Diecutting and Diemaking (IADD) and the Foil & Specialty Effects Assn. (FSEA), formerly known as the Foil Stamping & Embossing Assn. The event, which also targets the folding carton, corrugated, and specialty markets, will be held May 6-8 at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta, GA.
The conference offers more than 25 innovative technical sessions, both in the classroom and on the “Techshop” floor. Sessions are designed to educate, solve challenges, and promote open discussions that impact profitability and productivity.
Topics include hot stamping foil versus cold foil and single-pass corrugated die-cutting with embossing. Sustainability in packaging design also will be covered as part of a new management track on business strategies.
Odyssey attendees can visit more than 150 industry-specific exhibitors offering equipment and services at the Technology Hall. Other show highlights include a banquet announcing the winners of the FSEA Gold Leaf Awards and a pre-show open house at Heidelberg's packaging demonstration facility.

SVC TechCon
If vacuum web coating is your niche, head to the Santa Clara Convention Center in California May 9-14. The Society of Vacuum Coaters (SVC) will present its 52nd Annual Technical Conference and Exhibit in the heart of Silicon Valley. SVC reports its rich technical program will elevate the event to one of the top international meetings focusing on vacuum coating, surface engineering, and related technologies.
Educational sessions on atmospheric plasma technologies, thin film photovoltaics, health care applications, and emerging technologies, among others, have been planned. The program also includes traditional events such as the “Meet the Experts” corner, Donald M. Mattox Tutorials, and a comprehensive series of short courses in the Education Program. The popular “Heuréka!” session features late-breaking results and achievements presented in a relaxing atmosphere.
Attendees can interact with coating suppliers at the TechCon Industrial Exhibit and view live product demonstrations in a special section of the hall. Suppliers also have an opportunity to present their products in detail in the Vendor Innovators Showcase.
Additional events include facilitator-led breakfast table topics, a visit to the Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose, and the fourth annual 5K Fun Run and Walk.
