IPS Testing Is ISO Certified

APPLETON, WI | IPS Testing, an independent testing laboratory, has received ISO 17025 accreditation. This is the quality standard recognized globally for testing and calibration laboratories. With this certification, IPS Testing is now accredited for ICP analysis of heavy metals and GC-MS analysis of phthalates. The company has also added toy testing to its menu of services.
IPS president Bruce Shafer says the company pursued the accreditation because of the considerable increase in the amount of requests that relate to regulatory testing. The company has been providing analytical services focused on research and development and defect analysis for years in the paper, nonwovens, consumer products, and packaging industries, Shafer notes, and the recent trend toward more stringent regulations, including toy safety, food packaging, and the Coalition of Northeastern Governors (CONEG) requirements, led to the ISO application.
Shafer says, “As regulation continually increases, it has touched the paper industry in unforeseen ways.” He goes on to explain that while the company’s traditional client base does not manufacture toys, some do make the stickers that are placed on them. These stickers must be tested to ensure their safety in the event that a child was to remove and ingest them.
Along with regulatory testing for compliance purposes, adding heavy metals and organics analysis services gives IPS Testing the ability to work with clients in monitoring their processes from raw materials to finished goods. Shafer adds, “The testing of vendors’ or raw materials has become a significant part of our business as we have watched our clients move to global sourcing.”
