  • American Forest & Paper Assn., Washington, DC, reports total kraft paper shipments in January 2011 were 129,500 tons, a decrease of 3% compared to January 2010 but up 2.1% compared to December 2010. Total boxboard production in January 2011 increased by 8.3% compared to January 2010 and increased 5.5% from December 2010. Containerboard production for January 2011 increased 127,900 tons or 4.6% compared to January 2010 and was up 4.0% compared to December 2010.

  • Liberty Carton Co., Minneapolis MN, is certified under the ISO 14001 international environmental standard.

  • Graph-Pak Corp., Franklin Park, IL, and Vista Color, Miami, FL, join the Paperboard Packaging Council, Springfield, MA, as principal members. Xerox, Webster, NY, joins as an associate member.

  • Smurfit-Stone Container Corp., Chicago, IL, extends the term of CEO Patrick J. Moore's existing employment agreement until the completion of its pending acquisition by Rock-Tenn Co., Norcross, GA, which is expected to close in the second quarter.

  • Monadnock Paper Mills Inc., Bennington, NH, creates a sampler of its durable paper and board offerings.

  • Caraustar Industries Inc., Atlanta, GA, increases prices on all folding carton products effective with orders placed on and after March 28. The company also increases prices for all clay-coated grades from its Tama Mill by $40/ton effective with shipments on and after April 22. Freight surcharges of $.65/mile are implemented on all shipments of uncoated mill grades and products effective with shipments on and after April 4.
