  • Smurfit-Stone Container Corp., Chicago, IL, announces the resignation of Steven J. Klinger, president and COO, who intends to retire effective December 31. Klinger also will resign from the company's board of directors, which has launched a search for a successor.

  • Abbott-Action, Canton, MA, creates high-resolution 3D prototypes to pitch new structural designs to prospects using ArtiosCAD from EskoArtwork, Gent, Belgium. The converter also uses EskoArtwork's WebCenter software to enter orders, check job status, and receive an estimated date of completion. WebCenter will be used to assess the most effective press for a job automatically.

  • Paperboard Packaging Council, Springfield, MA, reports record attendance at its Fall Meeting and Leadership Conference, which was held October 13-15 in Memphis, TN. The nearly 200 attendees represented a 15% increase over the 2009 conference and more than 35% increase over the fall 2008 meeting.

  • American Forest & Paper Assoc., Washington, DC, reports total kraft paper shipments in September were 134,200 tons, an increase of 2.2% compared to September 2009 but a decrease of 1.5% compared to August 2010. Total year-to-date shipments rose 13.4% over last year. Total boxboard production increased by 7.2% compared to September 2009 but dropped 1.4% from August 2010. Year-to-date production was up 4.5% over 2009. Total containerboard production saw an increase of 189,500 tons or 7.0% when compared to September 2009. Production fell 3.3% over August 2010. Year-to-date production increased 9.2% over 2009.
