Beyer Adds 4th Bobst Folder/Gluer

COMMACK, NY | Beyer Graphics has upgraded its capabilities with the addition of a fourth Bobst folder/gluer. The Expertfold 110-A2 CS runs at 1,476 fpm and gives Beyer the capability to fold more than 3,000 box styles. The unit is equipped with the latest generation computer control system, the C.U.B.E. 3, which simplifies setup and allows job data to be stored and recalled. It comes with a wireless remote to give the operator greater mobility around the machine. According to Dan Beyer, “We're fortunate enough to have grown our business over the past year, so to better meet the demand and serve our clients, we needed the increased capacity. Eventually we'll be moving into Braille with the addition of an AccuBraille unit directly to the Expertfold.”

• The Recycling Div. of Smurfit-Stone Container Corp., Creve Coeur, MO, partners with Emerald Waste Services (EWS), Freeport, FL, to operate EWS's materials recycling facility and transfer station in Gainesville, FL. Smurfit-Stone will pull recyclable materials delivered to the transfer station from the waste stream, thereby reducing the amount of material that goes to the landfill.

• The American Forest & Paper Assn., Washington, DC, reports February Kraft paper shipments were 113,000 tons, a decrease of 15.5% from January. Total containerboard paper production increased 208,400 tons or 8.9% compared to February 2009.

• Caraustar, Atlanta, GA, which manufactures KlimatePRO/easy-POUR construction tubes comprising 100% recycled paperboard, complements its construction products by entering into an exclusive distribution and agency agreement with Column Form Technology (CFT), Sun Valley, CA, to market and sell CFT's Column Cast System in North America.

• Menasha Packaging Co., Neenah, WI, adds a new Apstar HG four-color rotary die-cutter from Germany-based Innovative Machinery Group. Installed at its Santa Fe Springs, CA, facility, the new technology expands Menasha's capacity for four-color printing to 4,500 sheets/hr. The die-cutter is said to offer exceptional speed and accuracy to ensure higher volumes on large surfaces with a maximum print area of 63×123 in.

• Czech Republic-based Soma Engineering names Heidelberg Middle East, Dubai, UAE, a partner for the sale of Soma's printing and converting machines in the Middle East.
