Colbert Introduces F=1 Patient Adherence Package

LAKE FOREST, IL | Colbert Packaging Corp. announced the availability of MedLock EZ, its latest invention in patient compliance packaging solutions. MedLock EZ is a child-resistant, senior-friendly, and sustainable unit dose alternative to amber prescription vials.
“While patient nonadherence continues to plague the industry, and is often the primary driver behind a switch from nondescript pharmacy vials to branded unit dose packages, the packaging alternatives must do more than just promote adherence,” said Glenn Grosskopf, VP of product development for Colbert Packaging. “MedLock EZ is a compact, all-in-one package that provides security and sustainability—and promotes patient adherence.”
MedLock EZ consists of an outer paperboard shell housing a pill blister card that is locked into place with an integrated, patent-pending locking mechanism. The lock disengages by squeezing and holding touch-points at one end of the paperboard shell while sliding the blister card out through the other end. Once the blister card is exposed, medication can be pressed through one of the individual blisters. Sliding the blister card back into the outer shell reengages the lock.
Subjected to Consumer Product Safety Commission testing protocols, MedLock EZ has tested to F=1 for child-resistant and senior-friendly effectiveness—high safety marks by the CPSC. Highly versatile and customizable, MedLock EZ delivers significant branding and sustainability benefits due to its paperboard-based design. The package’s large printable area can be used for brand attributes as well as medication details, dosing instructions, dates, and other information that engages patients and communicates a clear and consistent treatment regimen. MedLock EZ will typically be made from uncoated solid bleached sulfate (SBS) paperboard, but it can also be made using other types of paperboard, and it can integrate various coatings and special effects.
