Inside the October Issue of PFFC

By Joan Mantini, Editor

We did it! We made it to Autumn of 2020.  Quite an accomplishment this year, more than years past for most. As we are wrapping it up, I can’t help but think of the missed opportunities for in person meetings and networking like the now postponed LabelExpo.  The months of work that go into prepping for these shows looked a bit different for us all as we turned to virtual platforms. Indeed, we have all embraced and overcome countless obstacles and reconfigurations of schedules this year. Working from behind the screen, I now have countless coffee meetings lined up for when the show reschedules in spring of 2021.  Very much looking forward to these and seeing everyone once again!

Flipping the topic page, let’s take a look at what we have inside the October issue…

The continued rise of eCommerce in 2020 has reportedly strengthened the demand for the use of flexible packaging across many markets. Throughout the first half of 2020 alone, we have witnessed this increase in flexible packaging demand in food packaging – used to help maintain freshness for foods during the shipping process. Enhanced freshness and extended shelf life became even more desirable features for flexible pouches during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the article, “Machine Engineering to Address the Needs of Emerging Flexible Films,” you can learn how converters can proactively prepare to meet their customers’ needs by working with OEMs that have the engineering capabilities to adapt to new film structures and utilize automated technology. Working with OEMs can help converters to create added operator efficiency for faster changeovers, cost savings and reduced waste. An investment that could help facilities prepare to handle emerging films and continue to create quality pouches on-time and on-budget.

Also amongst the topics in this issue, you can learn more about static from contributing writer, Kelly Robinson. This month Robinson discusses static control for corona treaters. We also look at some electrostatic solutions from Simco-Ion in our “In the Spotlight.”

As we are wrapping up October at PFFC, stay tuned! We are finishing the final tweaks to our 2021 editorial calendar.  I am looking forward to working with all of you on the scheduled topics for next year.
