Schiavi to Unveil Gearless Flexo Press at Open House; Bobst Group Reports Strong Sales at Drupa for Flex Materials Biz

PRESS RELEASE

PIACENZA, ITALY & BEDFORD, UK—According to Schiavi, a member of the Bobst Group of companies, it will host a flexo and laminating open house at its manufacturing facility in Piacenza September 7 - 11, 2004. The open house is slated to be the forum for the unveiling of the OEM's newest gearless flexo press model, the EF 4040, which will be in full operation during the five-day event.

Schiavi reports the following about its new EF 4040:

The EF 4040 electronic, eight-color, central impression flexo press is the first implementation into a machine of the "universal deck" concept, which Schiavi presented at Drupa 2004.

This concept is radically innovative in as much as the universal deck does not identify with a set press configuration, but warrants the progressive extension of the initial press configuration after machine installation, in line, with the converter's changing requirements. Buy an eight-color press today, and afford [yourselves] the possibility [of getting] a ten-color press at a later stage by changing the machine's central impression drum and frame, plus two additional decks. [The change can be accomplished] in less than three weeks, on site.

Also at the open house, says Schiavi, the manufacturer will be showing an operational CL 660 Unica multi-function coater-laminator, which premiered during Drupa 2004 at Bobst Germany's demonstration center in Meerbusch.

Strong Sales at Drupa for Bobst's Flexible Materials Business
According to Bobst, Drupa 2004 also provided an "ideal opportunity" to launch its much-expanded flexible materials business area, a result of the Valmet Converting acquisition from Metso Corp. earlier this year. Out of 12 world premieres at Drupa, Bobst Group's expanded flex materials division unveiled five new machines.

Titan reports the sale of four of the new SR8 slitter/rewinders to customers in Turkey, India, and Colombia. The Titan SR8 on the OEM's Drupa stand, reports Bobst, was sold to Amcor Flexibles, and a Titan CT600 auto turret slitter, demonstrated in the company's Meerbusch demo center during the exhibition, was sold to a new customer from France.

"Other Titan orders are expected from the USA and Canada following discussions at Drupa," states Bobst.

The new Rotomec-Schiavi (RS) range of gravure printing presses were also very well received by customers at Drupa, says Bobst. "Several of the new RS 4004 short-run presses were sold to various customers worldwide, with [a] very positive reaction from the market for this new machine concept," adds the OEM.

The compact RS 1200 and RS 1250 gravure press models also made an impact in terms of orders booked at Drupa, Bobst reports. In addition, Schiavi sold two of the new CL660 Unica coater-laminators to customers in India.
