Looking at World Labels
CLEVELAND, OH—In a study entitled World Labels, Freedonia Group, predicts world label shipments will advance at an annual pace of almost 7% off a weak 2001–2003 base, surpassing 36 billion sq m by 2007.

In value terms, output will grow more than 9% annually to $73 billion, which will require about $35 billion of label stock. Gains will be fueled by expansion of the world’s packaged consumer goods markets, says the study, as well as the diffusion of advanced logistics and data processing systems throughout the developing world and the development and penetration of technologically sophisticated, value-added labels.

The best gains are expected in the world’s emerging economies, including Poland, Hungary, and Russia. China also will experience explosive growth, the report says. Label demand will be buoyed by adoption of advanced inventory control systems in developing areas and the expansion of marketing-focused capitalist economic systems.
