Desai Adds Fourth K2 Flexo Press

KIDDERMINSTER, UK | K2 Intl. Trading Ltd. has installed a fourth flexographic press at Desai Brothers Ltd., Pune, India, through its Mumbai-based representative, Raja Consultancy Services. The 500-mm wide, six-color K2-500 press is equipped with infrared dryers optimized for use with water-based ink.

Desai Brothers manufactures cigars, averaging 70 million per day and requiring 3.5 million wrappers. The wrappers were being produced mostly by four-color offset presses. The new flexo presses provide additional colors and metallic inks, which increase shelf appeal and provide anti-counterfeiting measures.

Desai prints on 35 gsm unsupported poster paper and sheets in-line at high speeds. The company now can manufacture wrappers at an average speed of 75 mpm.

The K2-500 press features automatic web tension control and an electronic web guide to optimize print registration and die-cutting accuracy.
