Georgia-Pacific is extending its Packaging Systems Optimization (PSO) service program to noncustomers. The program is designed to help companies achieve greater profitability and sustainability by identifying packaging supply chain inefficiencies.
The program comprises a rigorous, five-step process in which a team of packaging engineers analyzes a company's entire packaging supply chain, including package design, material optimization, shelf impact, SKU consolidation, line productivity, material handling, and distribution.
Georgia-Pacific is part of Wal-Mart's Packaging Sustainability Value Network and says PSO can support packaging scorecard goals.
The company says it has identified more than $180 million in annual savings for customers since 2002.
