Celplast Launches Metallizer Topcoater

TORONTO, ON, CANADA | Celplast Metallized Products Ltd. president Dante Ferrari and local government officials cut the ceremonial ribbon on September 13 to officially commemorate the launch of what company says is the first-of-its-kind, large-scale metallizer topcoater, which uses patented Metacoat technology.
This technology is said to introduce high-barrier material solutions to the flexible packaging and converting industry, making it possible for converters to eliminate layers, streamline production, simplify their raw material stream, and significantly reduce the carbon footprint of their products. The new 8-ft (2.45-m) metallizer is said to be the first with in-line flexo coating and E-beam curing.
“This is a truly revolutionary technology for the converting industry that has been nine years in the making,” says Ferrari. “We have been working with our partners to produce many unique top-coated films on our pilot line for all kinds of flexible packaging formats. In doing so, we have been able to prove out the technical benefits of this technology in a variety of applications. Celplast is excited to become the first company in the world to apply this technology on a large-scale commercial machine. It's the next big step in the evolution of barrier films, and I believe we will see a lot of the industry adopting in-line metallizing and top-coating in the near future."
Shaun Chen, local Member of Parliament for Scarborough North, was in attendance to celebrate the unveiling of the Metacoat technology. “This event marks an important milestone for a trail-blazing company,” said MP Chen. “The launch of this new machinery will lead to new market opportunities and growth for Celplast, while helping the company to deliver safe, consistent, and high-quality products and services to clients in the packaging industry. The Government of Canada, through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, is proud to support Celplast as it increases its technical capabilities and drive economic growth through innovation.”
