Coating Adds Barrier to PLA

NanoSeal coating technology is said to improve moisture vapor and oxygen barriers on clear, biodegradable PLA packaging films. The coating system also reportedly bonds well to PLA films and provides flavor and aroma barriers. The environmental benefits are enhanced by economics, says the company, claiming less material is used to achieve better barrier than PVDC, EVOH, and PVOH, and the elimination of chlorine-bearing PVDC reduces processing and disposal concerns.
