CS2 Cases with Butterfly Knives: Complete Drop Pool List

The Butterfly Knife is the most desired knife in CS2, but not every case can drop one. If you are chasing the iconic balisong, you need to know exactly which cases to open. Here is the complete list.

Cases That Drop Butterfly Knives

CaseCase Key CostButterfly Finishes AvailableOther Notable Drops
Operation Breakout Case~$3.50All Butterfly finishesFirst case to feature Butterfly Knife
Spectrum Case~$3.00Doppler, Marble Fade, Tiger Tooth, etc. Also has Karambit, M9

Gamma 2 Case~$2.80Gamma Doppler, Freehand, etc.More Gamma finishes

The Operation Breakout Case was the first to introduce the Butterfly Knife back in 2014, and it remains one of the most popular cases for Butterfly hunters. However, Spectrum cases offer a wider variety of high-value finishes like Doppler Sapphire and Ruby.

Which Case Gives the Best Butterfly Value?

Not all Butterfly Knives are equal. A Butterfly Fade from the Breakout Case and a Butterfly Doppler Sapphire from the Spectrum Case are wildly different in value. When choosing a case, consider what finishes you would be happy with if you beat the 0.26% odds.

  • For maximum jackpot value: Spectrum Case -- the Butterfly Doppler Sapphire can reach $6,000
  • For broadest finish variety: Operation Breakout -- access to classic finishes like Fade and Slaughter
  • For lowest cost per opening: Chroma 3 or Gamma 2 -- cheapest case prices while still having Butterfly in the pool
  • For unique finishes: Gamma Case -- exclusive Gamma Doppler and Autotronic finishes not available elsewhere

Important Considerations

Remember that even when opening a case with Butterfly Knives in the pool, you first need to beat the 0.26% odds of getting any knife. Then the game randomly selects which knife model you receive from that case's pool. If a case has 5 different knife models, you have roughly a 1 in 5 chance of getting a Butterfly specifically (assuming equal weighting). That means your real odds of unboxing a Butterfly Knife from a single case are closer to 0.05% -- or about 1 in 2,000 openings. Keep these numbers in mind when budgeting.

Note: Some community sources list cases incorrectly. Always verify a case's knife pool through the in-game case preview or trusted database sites before investing money in openings.
