K 2004 Plastics Show to Showcase Use of Plastics in Sports

CHICAGO, IL, USA—K 2004, the International Trade Fair for Plastics and Rubber, will feature a unique presentation about the utilization of plastic in recreational and competitive sports. According to Messe Düsseldorf North America (MDNA), the special event will highlight innovative materials and processes as well as include discussion sessions and film features.

States MDNA, "Organized by the German Association of the Plastics-Producing Industry (VKE) and Messe Düsseldorf, the exhibit will re-create the atmosphere of a cutting-edge sports arena on more than 5,300 square feet of exhibit space in hall six at the Düsseldorf, Germany, fairgrounds." Adds the organizer, "A grandstand outfitted with some 140 original plastic seats will not only provide the audience with a good view during presentations, but will reveal the technical construction of the seats." Several "activity islands" within the stadium will feature various sporting activities (winter/summer), explains MDNA.

"The focus will be on the development of sports equipment, technical accessories, and sports wear as well as sport-participation options for disabled individuals," states MDNA. "Sports stars—among them participants slated for the Olympic games in Athens later this year—will be on hand to demonstrate how polymers help competitive sports."

Also, reports MDNA, the FIFA (Féderation Internationale de Football Association) 2006 World Cup will be topic at the K 2004 special sports presentation. "[Models of] the most modern German stadiums—where the World Cup matches will take place—will be on display."
