PRESS RELEASE
MARIETTA, GA, USA—Earlier this month, Graphic Packaging Corp. announced plans to expand its existing Fort Smith, AR, USA, operations by building a new 300,000 sq-ft manufacturing plant. According to the company, the existing Fort Smith operations will be transferred to the new plant in the second quarter of 2005. "Approximately 135 employees will be added to the new plant’s headcount, bringing the total employment in Fort Smith to 300 people," adds Graphic Packaging.
“This expansion furthers GPC’s manufacturing rationalization strategy and allows us to fully capture the manufacturing advantages anticipated by the August 2003 merger,” says Graphic Packaging president/CEO Stephen Humphrey. “As a result of this investment, our sheet-fed printing production will be more streamlined, closer to GPC board mills and operate at a lower converting cost. It also allows GPC to more effectively service customers from a new modern facility."
