Improved Uptime, Set up Time, and Lower Scrap Rates Help Deliver Products in a Timely Manner at a Competitive Price

All State Printing Q&A with Totani

Chuck, tell us about your background and how All State Printing came to be?
We originally looked at the ePac business but if we were going to make the investment, we wanted to have the autonomy that comes with being a majority owner. All State Printing was then formed as a digital printer and converter in November of 2018.

What would you say differentiates All State Printing from its competition?
All State Printing continues to invest in new technology and equipment upgrades. It is our belief that if our customers are going to invest in a high-quality package to showcase their brand, they should be the highest quality package available in the market today. The industry continues to make advancements at a rapid pace and All State is committed to being industry leaders when it comes to new technology and we are willing to invest in order to do so. We feel it is important to sup- ply our customers with the highest quality and most aesthetically pleasing pouch available.

You got into pouching in 2018, however, in 2022 you made the change to Totani. What prompted that change?

It was really a matter of sitting down and doing the math. When you consider the amount of down-time and scrap that we created with the first machines that we purchased, along with the fact that the Totani runs between 35%-40% faster than our other machine, the payback on the Totani was less than 6 months. I thought that I was saving money on the original investment but it became apparent to us very quickly that you really get what you pay for.

Describe your overall experience with Totani to date and what separates them from other pouch machine OEMs?

Everyone knows that Totani builds a high-quality machine that is going to last but I believe the biggest thing that sets Totani apart from their competition is their service. Their team did a great job of coming in and training our operators and they are readily available either by phone or on-site visits when needed. The user interface on the machine is very intuitive and easy for our operators to use.

Response time when it comes to service and spare parts is night and day when comparing to two suppliers. Totani typically can get spare parts to us in 24 – 48 hours compared to weeks for their competition. If my customers have to go weeks without bags, we will lose them and likely never get them back. It’s imperative that we keep them in constant supply with a quality product.

Explain how Totani improves All-State’s bottom line and makes you a better supplier.
Quality of pouch that comes off the Totani is much more consistent than their competition. It’s our customers’ billboard – they need consistent quality. Totani offers a much more consistent and a higher quality product than their competition. Operators do not have to continue to tweak the machine like they do on our other brand pouch line. The constant tweaking causes inconsistency and higher scrap rates. With Totani, once the set up is done, very few adjustments are required.
