Sun Chemical Adds Line of Varnishes

PARSIPPANY, NJ | Sun Chemical recently introduced the SunEvo Protect LEP range of water-based, UV-based overprint varnishes (OPVs) and solvent-based varnishes for the production of labels, flexible packaging, and folding cartons on HP Indigo digital presses.

Following the collaboration agreement signed with HP Indigo at interpack 2017 cost-effective digital coatings, Sun Chemical has advanced the relationship by introducing the new varnishes. The digital coatings have been tested either by Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) or validated by HP’s L&P Media and Materials team in accordance with the HP Indigo Over Print Varnish Performance Programme.

Reportedly, the OPVs protect HP Indigo ElectroInk to fulfill packaging applications, while enhancing the customer experience through the quality of the finish. The series includes Sun Chemical’s latest generation of migration-compliant UV varnish technology suitable for indirect food packaging and are said to meet regulatory requirements such as the Swiss Ordinance for food contact packaging.

The OPV range also includes high-performance, water-based protective coatings developed to enhance the resistance of outdoor print as well as a range suitable for embellishment, including stampable and soft touch.

“We are extremely pleased to collaborate and engage closely with Sun Chemical,” says Nurit Raccah, Label & Packaging Media and Materials Business Manager, Supplies & Media, HP Indigo Div. “Their range of expertise and product offering in different areas of application performance will undoubtedly contribute to improving HP Indigo customer demands and expectations.”
