Cups that Rock

Inland Label, LaCrosse, WI, receives Domestic Best in Show honors for its KISS Cups entry in the In-Mold category. The cups feature four colors of highly reflective metallic ink plus silver printed on clear biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) and laminated to white BOPP using solvent-based inks from Flint on a Schiavi press with engravings by Southern Graphic Systems. This is a “big and bold” label, say the judges. The silver effect adds depth, and the dynamic images stand out. Judges also comment that the silver, black, and red contrast nicely, and the explosion around the KISS logo adds movement.

Inland Label also wins in the Glue Applied Label category for its Molson Export Ale label.

Brewing Top Honors

Ukrplastic Kyiv, Ukraine, takes the top International Best of Show honor for the Tchibo Coffee label in the Process category. The attractive label features nine colors printed on a lamination of polyethylene/foil/polyethylene terephthalate (PET) using Rotoflex inks on a Ten press with indirect laser-engraved cylinders.

Judges say the label has “a nice, bright-looking result with a mix of dark blue and light blue background, and the excellent rendering of the coffee granules makes for a lovely package.” Judges also comment on the clarity of the label. “Conventional screening in the dark blue produces a nice vignette, and the use of stochastic screening gives a nice smooth effect in the tonal areas.”

The judges also reward the company in the Film/Film Lamination category for its Pergale Dark Chocolate Covered Hazelnut entry.
