Less Maintenance Needed With New UV System

BRISTOL, PA

With three facilities, Dunmore Corp. manufactures a variety of metallized, coated, and laminated films. Each line typically features both thermal and UV curing capabilities, but at the Bristol plant, a 74-in.-wide production line had a ten-year-old arc lamp system requiring more and more maintenance.

With another line in the plant operating for 15 years with a Fusion UV F3000S curing system, Dunmore ran trials on its pilot line of the Fusion F6005 system. The company chose the system, which features one row of VPS/1600 UV curing systems mounted in an MLS light shield, with dichroic reflectors and H bulbs, plus a chill bed.

Paul Sullivan, director of engineering at Dunmore, says he is seeing maintenance savings with the new system. “…The Fusion UV system uses only air to cool the lamps, while the chill bed located below the substrate is cooled with water.” In addition, maintenance personnel don't have to clean bulbs and reflectors so often.
