Thor movie Review. Ragnarok is fun, but... An empty Marvel attraction

Taika Waititi decided to completely change the tone and look of the new painting about the god of thunder. Knowing full well that he was making a comic book in which anything is possible with the characters, he turned his story into a circus attraction (both in the bad and in the good sense of the word).

The new Thor is a ridiculous, meaningless, overflowing spectacle. In which almost every one of the characters does not forget to make a joke - at least once.

The picture introduces us to Sakaar, a garbage planet that gets garbage from all over the galaxy and into which our heroes also got. We can see spectacular costumes, bright colors, and cool new characters.

Thor. Ragnarok - with its cheerful, bright colors, with a lot of humor and its design, certainly resembles Guardians of the Galaxy. There is really a lot of humor. You can see that there is more of it here than in other Marvel films, more than the same James Gunn.

As you can see from a visual point of view, the new Thor is definitely cool. But if we go to the very component of the film, then everything will be far from clear. I must say right away that I didn't really like the movie and now I'll try to explain why.

I was pleased with the special effects, but the action is kind of fast, you just don't have time to enjoy it. Remember how Thor quickly beats up Surtur's minions at the beginning of the film, Hella quickly deals with the army of Asgard, then Thor, having received the power of Odin, quickly roasts Helly's warriors with lightning.

Now let's move on to the characters. The friends of Thor known to us from the first two films are merged as quickly as possible. Lady Sif is not shown at all, which is a pity (but as for me, she is a good pair of Torah). In return, we are presented with a new heroine and perhaps in the future a new girlfriend of Thor - Valkyrie. Who is shown here as such a toweling alcoholic. At least Waititi cut a scene from the movie that hinted at her bisexuality. The Hulk as a character has not been revealed. Here he is the Hulk, after a couple of scenes he is Bruce Banner. Tom Hiddleston is no longer here. He is no longer as cunning and charismatic as in the two previous installments of Thor or the Avengers (2012). It doesn't surprise you anymore and it's easy to predict. The minor characters also didn't turn out very well. The Grandmaster is just funny, and there's not much of him in the movie itself. Korg (who, by the way, was voiced by Waititi himself) is cool, but nothing more.

Of all of them, there is only one Hala, who is serious and this makes her different from all the other characters. Oddly enough, Cate Blanchett looks good to me in the role of Heli. And they don't fully reveal it, but let's be honest, now in many films the characters are not really revealed.

As for the story, it seems that Waititi simply forgot about it. The script seems to be good, but we don't have a plot as such. The characters just go back and forth, fight and have fun. Odin is simply drained - he dies inexplicably quickly and at such a crucial moment as the end of the world (Ragnarok). There is, in principle, another question about the film. Where did Hela come from, where did she get the strength to break the hammer, how did she gain power from Asgard itself and become almost invincible. No one gives us answers to these questions.

In general, we have a continuous entertainment action with not bad jokes. The film has original solutions and beautiful visual scenes: the same loss of the hammer, the scene with Surtur at the beginning, Heli's battle with Valkyrie. But due to the abundance of old and new characters, many episodes were cut during editing, which affected the logic of the plot. As a result, the film resembles cutting beautiful scenes with good graphics.

To sum up, we got from director Taika Waititi exactly what he knows how to do - make people laugh. But we didn't get well-written characters and a serious story.
