BRIDGEWATER, NJ—A new brochure from National Adhesives provides a general summary of the various types of adhesives or "gums" that are used to manufacture envelopes in the United States. The eight-page brochure, titled "Envelope Adhesives 101," explains the critical role adhesives play in quality envelope manufacturing and provides information on the five most common types of adhesives used in envelope production. It also explains the function of specialty adhesives designed for applications such as X-ray film storage envelopes, archival envelopes and envelopes made with translucent paper stocks.

Information on the adhesive properties required for various envelope applications also is provided, along with adhesive formulation data, a coating-weight chart for various paper stocks and a chart that details the layflat, dry film thickness, adhesion, humidity, tack, appearance, and other characteristics of different adhesive types.
