AIMCAL Hosts Annual Fall Technical Conference

PRESS RELEASE

The Assn. of Industrial Metallizers, Coaters and Laminators (AIMCAL) will hold its annual Fall Technical Conference, October 7-10, 2007, at the Radisson Fort McDowell Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The 2007 event opens with a keynote address by Mark Fihn, publisher and editor-in-chief of Veritas et Visus, who will discuss all aspects of the evolving display market including flexible displays, display-related standards and regulations, three-dimensional displays, high-resolution displays and touch panels, and how developments in these areas will impact converters, materials suppliers, and equipment builders.

Sessions follow the familiar two-track format—one for Coating/Laminating and one for Vacuum Web Coating—except for the opening session each morning and the final six presentations, which are devoted to topics of interest to both groups. In addition, Sunday and Monday activities conclude with receptions in the TableTop Exhibition area.

Monday morning’s joint session is a presentation on "The Color (and Security) of Money," by Roger Phillips of JDSU—Flex Products Group. Tuesday morning opens with "Polyester (PET) Film as a Substrate: A Tutorial," by Donald J. McClure of Acuity Consulting and Training. On Wednesday morning, Steve Barth of CPFilms will discuss "From Fiber to Film—Dyeing Polyester, the Past, the Present and the Future."

The Coating/Laminating track highlights include several sessions on clean room operations, state-of-the-art coating technologies, use of simulation tools, adhesive, lamination, extrusion coating, 100% solids adhesive lamination, myths of web handling, adhesive selection and performance, corona treatment of polyester film, automatic inspection technologies for coated and metallized webs, coating weight measurement, automated surface inspection, on-line gauging systems, and inertial roll alignment.

The Vacuum Web Coating track highlights include requirements of flexible displays, biomedical sensors, high-performance gas barrier materials, new clear barrier coatings, high-barrier polylactide films for flexible packaging, microstructured pigments, nano particle coatings for window film, measuring surface resistance in deposited films, in-situ ellipsometry on thin vacuum-deposited films, environmental and energy concerns, conductive inks and coatings, patterning of vacuum-coated films, sputtering innovations, and boat performance.

Sponsors of the event include CMM Intl., GfE Metalle + Materialien GmbH, Solon Specialty Wire/ShapedWire, and PRUFTECHNIK Service. For more information, visit aimcal.org.
