Valmet Inaugurates Italian Tech Center

SAN GIORGIO MONFERRATO, ITALY—Valmet, a member of the Metso Corp., reports the successful inauguration of its new Technology Center at Valmet Rotomec SpA, San Giorgio Monferrato in northern Italy. According to the co., "Approximately 180 guests and VIPs attended the ceremony [held on May 16, 2002], including more than 70 important customers from most parts of Europe and [other worldwide locations].

Juhani Pakkalao, president/CEO of Metso Paper, Inc., spoke at the event and confirmed the company's mission to provide "value-enhanced" solutions for its customers' core processes, "developing service and delivering profitable innovation as a world-leading supplier."

Mikko Helander, Valmet Converting president, also addressed guests at the event and expanded on this philosopy, "that Valmet is regarded as the 'more valued added' supplier [for] the converting business worldwide—especially in the sphere of flexible packaging, which represents directly or indirectly more than 70 percent of Valmet's business."

Helander also emphasized the successes of important product developments achieved in recent years by Valmet, including:

  • Rotomec electronic shaft technology in gravure printing; Rotomec gearless flexo printing; and new Rotomec laminating technologies;

  • Titan SR slitter/rewinder; fully automated slitting, rewinding, and handling solutions; and

  • General clear-barrier vacuum coating technology.
