Esko-Graphics Updates Packaging-Design Software: ArtiosCAD 5.0

GENT, BELGIUM—Esko-Graphics reports the release of its new version of its flagship computer-aided packaging design software ArtiosCAD. In addition to a suite of user-interface enhancements, ArtiosCAD 5.0 includes new drafting, die tooling, and manufacturing tools, says the manufacturer, as well as a "highly anticipated" virtual packaging prototyping module that allows users to created graphically enhanced three-dimensional animations.

Says Susie Stitzel, CAD product manager at Esko-Graphics, "This release is really centered around presentation capabilities. First, we added the ability to review high-resolution graphics in common formats, like [Adobe] Illustrator or PDF, from within the CAD program—already a significant quality improvement." She continues, "Then we provided the capability to apply the graphics to a structure and view the entire package in 3D. Finally, we incorporated animation tools so users can add movement to the packages they've designed. For example, they could record the steps for properly folding a box, or for assembling multiple pieces of an in-store display. Then they can replay those steps interactively."
