Smurfit's New KBA Offset Press Capable of 12 Colors

CHICAGO, IL, USA—Smurfit-Stone Container Corp. reports the successful start-up of a new 64-inch KBA Rapida offset sheet-fed, eight-color, plus coating, press at its St. Charles, IL, litho label facility. In addition to its printing capabilities, says Smurfit, the use of split fountains [on the press] allows for up to 12 colors to be printed.

According to Smurfit-Stone, other features of the press include:

  • GMI Accusort II™ color scan technology; and
  • Conventional film-to-plate as well as computer-to-plate capabilities.
  • Smurfit-Stone says its St. Charles plant is part of the co.'s Consumer Packaging division, and the facility supplies cost and stack glue-applied labels to a wide variety of consumer products companies as well as litho sheets to internal Smurfit-Stone box and display plants. It's one of three litho label plants locations at Smurfit-Stone; the other two operations are located in Greensboro, NC, and in Dayton, OH. Visit Smurfit-Stone at smurfit-stone.com.
