WHAT'S NEW PRODUCTS: Carton & Box

  • Diamond Packaging, Rochester, NY, earns a spot on the US Environmental Protection Agency's new Top 20 Printers List of the largest green power purchasers in the commercial printing business. The company is buying more than 6 million kW hr of green power annually.

  • Smurfit-Stone Container Corp., Creve Coeur, MO, enters a joint venture with Advanced Disposal Services, Cobb County, GA, in which Smurfit-Stone will convert Cobb County's composting facility in Marietta, GA, for use as a materials recycling facility. Advanced Disposal will manage the adjacent waste transfer station. Smurfit-Stone is retrofitting sort line equipment in the 200,000-sq-ft composting facility to provide residential and commerical recycling services.

  • Caraustar Industries, Atlanta, GA, emerges from Chapter 11 as a newly reorganized private company, eliminating approximately $135 million in debt. The company has closed on a new $75 million revolving credit facility with General Electric Capital Corp., which, it is said, provides more than adequate liquidity to meet working capital needs.

  • Heidelberg, Kennesaw, GA, reports Bell Inc., Sioux Falls,SD, is the first US company to purchase a Speedmaster XL 162 VLF press. It features an aqueous coater and Prinect Press Center with Intellistart and integrated Wallscreen with color and register control in a central console.

  • Colbert Packaging Corp., Chicago, IL, introduces SecureOTC, a patent-pending package that combines a blister card within an outer folding carton for an all-in-one packaging solution for tablets, capsules, vitamins, and other pills.
