Folding Carton Gluers Find Homes in Italy
Jagenberg reports the first of three Diana 165-4 presses was shipped to Italy and is running at Cartotecnica Grafica Vicentina (CGV). The other two units are in use at Ondulati Maranello and Scatolificio Ceriana.

Says CGV's Luigi Campagnaro, “We realized the new Diana 165-4 would work with a broad range of stock, from very light corrugated board via triple flutes to high-grade, elaborately laminated boxes. What's more, [it] is very versatile and flexible for use with many formats normally only producible with smaller folding carton gluers.”

The manufacturer notes the standard Jagset adjustment unit now makes job changeover easier and quicker than before.

Correction
In the Release Liners Supplement to the November 2002 issue of PFFC, an error appeared in the article “Reducing Silicone Mist” beginning on pRL10.

In the graph showing mist reduction vs. wt.% Syl-Off HSXL, an incorrect shift in the X axis by one unit to the left leads the reader to assume no mist reduction is observed at 1%, when in fact excellent mist reduction is observed with 1% of Dow Corning's HSXL products.

Serving Up Biodegradable Wraps in US Parks

SANTA BARBARA, CA, USA—EarthShell Corp. reports EarthShell Packaging sandwich wraps now are being used in eight national parks throughout the US.

Prior to distribution in the US park system, EarthShell completed what it calls a successful test market of its sandwich wraps in the Baltimore/Washington area over a three-month period. Reportedly, the wraps met test objectives for product performance and price validation in the marketplace.

The wraps use the same ingredients as other EarthShell Packaging products, such as plates and bowls, which also are used in the parks. These ingredients, which include limestone, starch, and other biodegradable materials, are said to result in packaging that is environmentally preferable compared to traditional foil or paper and plastic-laminated wraps.

NPE 2003 Sponsor Offers Visa Help to International Visitors
WASHINGTON, DC, USA—Organizers of NPE 2003, scheduled for June 23-27 at McCormick Place, Chicago, IL, are urging international attendees to obtain a US visa as soon as possible.

The Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI), sponsor of the triennial event, is offering assistance in this task. At the Web site npe.org, you will find visa information and a number of links that can help facilitate the process.

Explains Jordan L. Morgenstern, SPI VP of trade shows, “Since the [Sept. 11, 2001] terrorist attacks in the US, the time required for processing visa applications from many parts of the world has increased to three or four months, and delays may lengthen during the transition period if responsibility for processing visa applications is transferred from the US State Department to the Department of Homeland Security. We are advising prospective international visitors to start the visa process now, even if they are only considering attendance at NPE 2003.”

P-S Tapes to Expand Annually

CLEVELAND, OH, USA—The world market for pressure-sensitive (p-s or self-adhesive) tapes is projected to expand at an annual pace of 5.5% through 2006 to 25.4 billion sq m, valued at $20.8 billion. This is the conclusion of a new study from the Freedonia Group.
