NEW YORK, NY, USA—Gaining valuable packaging/converting market information should be a breeze at this month's CMM Intl. Slated for April 23-25 in Chicago, IL, the show is hosting a series of seminars and special events that will explore packaging issues. Highlights include:

  • “Global Aspects & Market Trends: End User Packaging,” sponsored by PFFC, which will analyze various segments within the converting industry, including tags & labels, flexible packaging, and folding cartons.
  • A session on “The Convergence of Package Converting and Packaging” will occur during the OMAC (Open Modular Architecture Controls) Motion for Packaging Group meeting. Yolanda Simonsis, associate publisher/editor of PFFC, and David Newcorn, new media director of Packaging World, will lead this panel.

In other CMM news, three offset press manufacturers — Komori Chambon, KBA-Planeta, and Man Roland — will exhibit for the first time at the show, reflecting the increased use of the offset printing methodology in package printing converting.

“We are delighted that offset package printing will play an increasingly important role at CMM this year,” says Leo Nadolske, VP of CMM Events. “As more converters explore this option, it's important that we stay at the leading edge of all the latest industry developments.”

In addition to the offset technology showcased on the floor, CMM will host “The Great Debate — Packaging Graphics Printing Processes.” Sponsored by the Flexographic Technical Assn., National Paperbox Assn., and Gravure Assn. of America, this conference session will comprise package buyers and industry spokes-persons and will address their rationale(s) for choosing a specific print technology. This session also will offer a Q&A segment that will explore the decision-making process of each speaker.

Visitors to CMM can sign up for a free subscription to Convertingloop.com. The newly formed on-line community is designed to provide converting and packaging professionals with a wealth of converting market information.

The on-line community features a suite of business tools, including pertinent news with scrolling news feeds as well as information about converting technology centers and e-marketplaces.

The 2001 Converters Directory will be unveiled at the show. The directory will be available in both print and CD-ROM formats, and visitors to the Paperloop booth (#11003) will be able to view a demo, get additional information, and take advantage of special pricing on both products.

Both formats of the new directory will feature a buyer's guide — a resource containing useful information for the converting and containerboard industries, which includes supplier data, equipment manufacturer information, and technology and software product and service providers.
