Two 'Green' Companies Honored

GLOUCESTER, MA | Multi-Color Corp. and Yerecic Label have been awarded L.I.F.E. (Label Initiative for the Environment) certification from the Tag and Label Mfrs. Inst. (TLMI). The Project L.I.F.E. program was developed to assist TLMI members in finding cost-effective ways to reduce their companies' environmental footprint.

The program is designed specifically for the narrow web segment of the industry and addresses four key elements: clean production, energy and greenhouse gases, product and environmentally preferable materials, and management practices.

TLMI president Frank Sablone explains, “The central objective in developing the L.I.F.E. initiative was to offer the association's members a credible and comprehensive program that addresses their sustainability requirements and the opportunity to take their L.I.F.E. certification to their own customer base to further demonstrate their commitment to the environment and to the greater industry….”

  • Overnight Labels, Deer Park, NY, installs an eight-color, 16-in. press from Nilpeter, Cincinnati, OH. It includes up to a 203-mm layflat for shrink sleeves, cold foil, and additional laminated structures and flexible packaging capabilities.

  • Mark Andy, Chesterfield, MO, reports the installation of a Rotoflex SPI machine at India-based Sel-Jegat Printers for 100% pharmaceutical label inspection, counting, and slitting/rewinding in one pass. It is equipped with an active web storage accumulator, eDrive controlled web transport system, and Nikka advanced inspection system with a 6K camera.

  • MACtac, Stow, OH, enters a supply chain alliance with Xennovate Medical, Richmond, IN, that broadens customer access to Xennovate's patented hydrocolloids for wound, skin, and ostomy applications.

  • UK-based Tarsus Group changes the date for Labelexpo Europe 2011. At the request of visitors and exhibitors, the show now will take place from September 28 to October 1 in Brussels, Belgium.

  • The Kennedy Group, Willoughby, OH, expands to the Southeast with the acquisition of Orlando-based Florida Marking Products. The company will leverage the combined forces of three production plants, an RFID Customer Solutions Center, and sales as well as affiliate offices.

  • KAMA GmbH, Dresden, Germany, is awarded an HP Graphics Solutions Partner Silver Certificate from Hewlett-Packard, Palo Alto, CA, confirming the company's status as a certified business partner for its ProCut 53 automatic die-cutter.

  • UK-based Edale Ltd. appoints a new distributor, Panflex, to cover the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic.
