IRWINDALE, CA | NDC Infrared Engineering has introduced SPOT-ON, a new X-Ray coating weight gauging solution for accurate differential coat weight measurement. Preliminary results of several installations of this new NDC control algorithm reportedly have shown improvements with four times greater coat weight accuracy. SPOT-ON measures coat weight on substrates regardless of what substrate is being used. It completely accounts for base substrate effects to ensure that only the coat weight is measured, improving measurement capabilities and accuracy on basis weight sensors, including X-Ray sensors.

SPOT-ON includes three major product features for accuracy:

  • Precise same-spot measurement of the "before" and "after" measurement sensors to eliminate substrate weight variateions from affecting the coat weight measurement calculation.
  • Electronic and software matching of the4 "before" and "after" measurement sensor responses so that each gauge reads the same material identically.
  • Proprietary calibration software that eliminates the measurement effect caused by the substrate having a different material composition than the coating.
