AIMCAL Offers Web Coating & Handling Conference

 

FORT MILL, SC | The Assn. of International Metallizers, Coaters and Laminators (AIMCAL) will host its annual Web Coating & Handling Conference, October 27–30, 2013, at the Marriott Charleston in Charleston, SC.

The event begins with four optional half-day short courses, Barrier Materials: How Substrate Quality Affects Inorganic Coating Performance; Nanocoatings—Principles and Practice; Wrinkling and Spreading; and Web Slitting Technology.

An opening keynote address, “Challenges and Opportunities for the Future Flexible Packaging Market,” will be given at 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 27, 2013, by Dr. Kay Cooksey, professor, Cryovac Endowed Chair in the Packaging Science Department at Clemson University, Clemson, SC. A second keynote speaker, Bill MacDonald of DuPont, Wilmington, DE, will discuss Polyester Film Substrates for the Flexible Electronics Industry at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2013.

The conference is organized in three concurrent tracks: Vacuum Web Coating, Web Coating & Laminating, and Web Handling. Participants may move freely among the tracks. Topics for Vacuum Web Coating sessions include transparent conductive coatings, vacuum metallizing, barrier coatings, and surface characterization. Web Coating and Laminating track topics include pre-metered coating, defect management, coating innovations, and continuous improvement. Web Handling sessions will cover web conveyance, processing technology, web/drive control, and safety and regulation.

The schedule includes tabletop receptions on Sunday and Monday evenings; a number of optional networking events, including a Meet and Greet for first-time attendees; a 5K Fun Run in memory of Bernard Henry, a renowned expert in vacuum coating and an avid runner; a golf outing; and a farewell reception.
