GOA Is Bilingual

The Printing Assn. of Florida (PAF), headquartered in Orlando, will stage the 34th edition of Graphics of the Americas (GOA) at the Miami Convention Center February 26-28. Organizers expect more than 500 vendors will display and demonstrate their newest presses, printers, equipment, prepress and postpress products, software, consumables, and design-related products. PAF reports Adham Faltas recently has joined the organization as operations/trade show manager to support GOA's exhibitors, sponsors, and attendees.

Headlining the event is Pulitzer Prize-winning humor columnist Dave Barry, who will speak on opening day. Barry is the author of 30 books, and his work includes a syndicated column that has appeared in more than 500 newspapers around the world.

George Ryan, CEO and president of GOA, says, “Dave Barry is one of the most recognized pop commentators of our time. He is an integral member of the publishing community with highly unique views to share about our industry and life in general.”

Conference Program Includes Security

GOA conferences address key issues and technologies impacting the design, print, and publishing markets, particularly in the Americas, and with relevance to the global marketplace. New for 2009 is a two-day workshop, Supervising Print Production, designed to enhance a new supervisor's skills.

A two-day Brand Protection Conference will cover the latest technologies to protect packages, labels, and documentation from counterfeiting. Attendees will hear discussions on printing techniques, security inks, nanotags, coatings, substrates, mandates, and more.

Spanish-speaking attendees make up nearly 40% of GOA visitors, so Spanish-language seminars once again will be a key component of the trade show. According to Ryan, the goal is to help graphic arts professionals weed out the best solutions and methods for success among the numerous offerings available in the marketplace.

“The Latin American markets in both hemispheres are in the enviable position of having stronger economies at this time,” he says. “The seminars will help them maximize their advantage in the world marketplace.”
